Here is a quick, inexpensive way to redesign a Pendant light and add soft furnishing to rooms that can otherwise be hard and clinical, like kitchens. Find a lampshade you love (not like, love) and cut a third of the circle (shown) with a metal saw. In my experience, most pendant lights have standard sized poles, and I haven't had this not work yet. Is that a sentence? Can you tell I'm excited? Yes! So, remove the bulb and existing/glass shade (you can put the shade back after if you like). Slide the fabric shade onto the pole, having the cut circle 'bite' the pole. Replace the bulb and that's it! The 5-minute custom pendant!
